Heinrich Heine (1797 - 1856), born Chaim Harry Heine, 1797 - 1856, he was one of the most significant German romantic poets. He is remembered especially for selections of his lyric poetry. He was of Jewish origin, but in 1825, he decided to convert from Judaism to Protestantism because of the severe restrictions on Jews in many of the German states. He died of general paralysis in Paris.
